Mary Jane was born on 11 September 1854 at Regent Street, Weston super Mare, Somerset to Henry COLLIS and Frances (Fanny) TAYLOR.

She moved with her parents to Portsea (Portsmouth) Hampshire sometime prior to 1881 and was employed as an Assistant Bookseller by the 'Tract Depot'. In the 1881 census she is shown as living at 14 Great Southsea Street, Portsmouth, but by prior to her marriage she was living at the family home at 24 King's Terrace.

She married Henry TOMASIN on 5 October 1882 at the Kent Street Chapel, Portsea Island, Hampshire. She had three children between 1883 and 1887.

They set up home at 2 Festing Terrace, then when Henry left the Royal Marine Artillery, they moved to 10 Eton Road, Portsmouth.

Mary Jane died on 21 April 1924 of Senile Decay at 265 Milton Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire
