(Although his fathers name, and James', are shown as THOMASIN on James marriage certificate, he signed himself TOMASIN on that certificate and the family name thereafter is TOMASIN.)

He married Mary LEAVERS on 24 September 1838 at St Werburgh Parish Church, Derby. They had thirteen children between 1838 and 1857. He was widowed again on 23 July 1859 when Mary died.

He is recorded as employed as a labourer from 1838, and they were living at Anchor Row, Ilkeston, Derbyshire according to the 1841 census, but had moved to Burr Lane, Ilkeston, Derbyshire by the 1851 census.

He married Sarah PRIME at sometime between 1860 and the 1871 census, when they was shown as living with  at 11 Brussels Terrace, Ilkeston, Derbyshire and he was described as a 'Hope Singer'. By 5 October 1882, according to his son Henry's marriage certificate, he was working as a Horse Clipper .

Henry died on 18 February 1883 at the Union Workhouse, Basford of Exhaustion and Dropsy and he was described as a Horse Breaker on the death certificate.
